salt dough

i decided to make 3D pieces out of salt dough just using salt flour and water mixed together. i made a wedding cake a bow and a petal. the salt dough gives a craft look a home made touch a personal slant on the wedding these could be used as part of the table settings.

my own designs

i have drawn up some of my own designs for dresses making samples of parts of the dreesses on the pages to show i have looked in to the making of them. i have looked at brides maids dresses aswell but i have decided i want to go down the wedding dress route. i have made a range of larger skale samples including weaves paper making embrodary my own lace and so on using materials such as bubble wrap that isnt normally used in clothes.

Caroline Castigliano

i love carolines dress so she gave me great inspiration. her dresses are very classic dress's using alot of embrodary they look stunning! my idea is to put an artistic twist on them using her style but using materials and objects that wouldnt usually be used in dress's or wedding dress's

invitations

i looked in to different invitations on the internet and in stores to see the type of styles people go for. i went on to make my own using decrotive pieces and fabric i even went on to decorate the envilopes. for my invitation i just used plain card so i thought it would by nice to try out making my own paper this was a long prossess and the final result is still drying i willsoon add pictures when the product is complete. to make the paper my own i added petals to the paper this gave it a home made feel like thought had gone into it.

Flowers

Flowers are a big thing at weddings i have looked at the patterns of them that i can make i have made flowers out of felting and netting, i have minipulated fabrics with flowers on in to a different style by adding embelishment. the artist i have looked at is steven mayers from his work i have taken the use of dryed flowers as his pictures of flowers sort of see through the frowers to see the actual form of the flower.

research

today i am going in to nerwcastle to visit some bridal shops to see if i can get some first hand pictures of wedding dresses. this is so i have a range of designs i can work with when designing my own dresses.

back after the summer

over the summer i have been building up my first hand photos from a family wedding. i have also gathered second hand research from bridal magazines looking at different details. i have particularly been looking at the design of wedding dress iv been looking at a designer called Caroline castigliano i am hoping to find some of her dresses so i can get my own first hand photos of them. i also want to look into the smaller decorative parts such as flower arrangements,table designs, and hangings. another big thing at weddings i have found are head pieces whether its the guests wearing hats or the brides vale they are always a statement thing.

Statement of intent

In unit 3 I am going to look at weddings. I want to specifically look at the design work that goes into weddings such as the dresses flowers table decorations where people get the different the different ideas from and the final result.
I was inspired to look into weddings as from my cousins wedding I loved the detail that went into every bit in the future I would like to work and be involved in the planning of weddings so this is a great way for me to get a start into that.
One big thing I want to look into through this project is wedding dress design. I have started to look at the designer Caroline Castigliano her dresses are very detailed and look amazing. I wanted to work with her work to come up with wedding dress designs myself maybe in one of her styles as she has a few different ones but they all have a traditional and classy look through out them all.
My primary images I have collected from my cousins wedding I have a range of photos I have taken from looking at the flower designs to the dress to the set out of the venue. I will collect more images by putting my own flower arrangements together and I also intend to visit wedding shows throughout the summer.
I am going to look at different styles of weddings from the classic traditional wedding to the over top to a gothic wedding to a last minute wedding they all have their individual stamp on them.
This will lead me on too how wedding have changed since the olden days how they have moved on with the times. Looking at civil partnerships for gay couple the history of how this started.
These are my initial ideas for my unit 3 I am sure these will alter as I work through my work and will expand with different ideas I get.
